Hai friends, welcome to SolidWorks Tutorial for beginners and in this how to tutorial, you are going to see how to emboss text on model surface or face in SolidWorks CAD software. It is very useful tool which helps to make text embossing the designed model surface. This step is one of the finishing one which gives name to the product in solid way. So, let us see how to emboss model name on the product design.

What are the Tools required for Emboss Text in SolidWorks?

Embossing the text is not direct command in SolidWorks. It is possible with combination of 2 to 3 commands. They are Sketch text, Extrude boss or base and Fillet features. Sketch text command helps you to name the product in the way as you need. You can arrange the text on circular, linear, or on curves on the face of the model. The uses of Extrude boss and fillet features are already explained in the different tutorials. Let us see how to emboss text on the metal surface using the SolidWorks.

How to Use SolidWorks Emboss Text on Metal Face

Here, you are going to see make a simple rectangular model and different ways to emboss text on the face of that model.

Step-1: Create New Part File

First you have to create new part file. Go to file menu and select New from the drop-down menu. Select Part from the dialogue box and click on OK. From the user interface, you have to select Top Plane which shown below.

Step-2: Create Rectangle using Sketch Tool

Go to the Sketch command manager and select the “center rectangle sketch tool”. Then draw the rectangle sketch on the top plane.

Step-3: Make a Box using Extrude Boss

Click on the “Exit the sketch” button. Go to the features command manager and select “Extrude boss/base” feature tool. Apply the feature the rectangle sketch and make a 3D box as you seen below in the image.

Step-4: Create Text on Face of the Box

First, you can see how to emboss text in linear manner on the box.

For that, you have to go to the sketch command manager. Select the face of the box where you need to emboss the name.

Select the “Sketch Text” tool from the sketch command manager and click on the selected face. Then enter the name you want to emboss on it. For example giving name as “Rectangle”.

To make emboss the name on the box, you have to go to the features command manager and select Extrude boss/base tool.

Adjust the extrude length of the text by using the “depth” on the extrude boss property manager. Then click Ok.

Step-5: Final Finish to Embossed Text

For giving the final finish to the embossed name by using the Fillet feature.

Select the “Fillet” feature tool from the features command manager and select top face of the extruded text as you seen in the image below.

Create the text on the model surface and apply extrude boss or base feature to make it embossed. This way you can create text embossing on solidworks models.
