SolidWorks Loft Bose Guide Curves | SolidWorks Tutorials 39
Hai friends, welcome to SolidWorks Tutorial for beginners and in this how to tutorial, you are going to learn solidworks loft boss guide curves; one of the additional feature of loft property manager for making complex shapes. It is almost same as like the loft command in solidworks which connects or adds material to two different profiles in multiple planes; but in guided way. In this SolidWorks tutorial, you will see how to use loft boss base guide curve command and what is guide curves feature.
What is SolidWorks Loft Boss Guide Curve?
SolidWorks lofted boss base guide curve is additional feature which available in loft property manager. It helps to create 3D model between multiple profiles by guiding them using line or curve. If you are not given a curve or line as guide, it will simply adds material like normal loft command. You can also call this feature as solidworks loft boss connectors as it connects profiles on different planes. So, let’s see how to apply lofted boss base guide curves in SolidWorks CAD software.
How to Use SolidWorks Lofted Boss Guide Curve Tutorial
Here, you are going to see how to create materials between circle, rectangle and circle sketches on three different planes by connecting them a spline curve.
Step-1: Create New Part File
First you have to create new part file. Go to file menu and select New from the drop-down menu. Select Part from the dialogue box and click on OK. From the user interface, you have to select Top Plane which shown below.
Step-2: Create Additional Reference Plane on Top plane
You have to go to features command manager and click on Reference geometry. From the drop-down menu, you have to select Plane from it.
You can set distance between top plane as “50 mm” and no of plane is set as “2”.
Step-3: Make 2D Sketch on Three Planes
Here , I am creating Circle sketch on the top plane.
Then select next plane create rectangle on it using center rectangle tool.
After that select Plane-3 and draw small circle on it.
Next step is to make guide curve between these sketches. That means you have to connect the three sketch profiles using guide curves and so that you can control material addition through the guide curves.
For that select 3D sketch from the Insert Menu and select 3D sketch from the drop-down menu. Then go to sketch command manager and select Spline sketch tool from it. Draw a spline curve which connects three sketch profiles as shown in the figure.
Then, click on the Exit The Sketch.
Step-4: Apply Lofted Boss Base Guide Curves
Next step is application of loft boss guide curve feature. For that go to Features command manager and select Lofted Boss/Base tool. Then you can see Loft property manager. In the profiles section, you have to select Sketch-1, Sketch-2 and Sketch-3 and preview are given below.
Move to Guide Curves section and select 3D Sketch 1 as guide curve and guide curves influence type selected as “to next guide”. The preview is given below.
Also shows the preview if selecting Guide curves influence type as “To Next Edge” below.
Step-4: Final 3D model
Click OK or green tick button to apply selected solidworks loft boss guide curves feature. It is just solidworks example for showing the purpose of lofted boss base tool. I think you got the idea and how to use solidworks loft boss guide curves feature tool for creating complex 3D models.
