How to Design Bushing or Bush Bearings in SolidWorks Tutorial Exercises 11
Hai friends, welcome to Solidworks tutorial for beginners and in this step by step tutorial, you are going to see how to make straight bushing in Solidworks. This SolidWorks tutorial helps you to design straight bush bearing as well as Solidworks features like sketching, sketch relations, extrude boss or base and chamfer tools. Before move to SolidWorks tutorial for making bronze or brass bushings, let me share some basic knowledge about them.
What is Straight bushing and uses?
Straight bushing or bush bearings are used in mechanical industry in various machinery. It have very important role to take as support as well as lubrication purposes. It protects the shaft of the machinery and helps to take radial and axial load as per its arrangements. Bronze or brass materials have ability to cause low friction to the moving or rotating parts and effectively carry heavy loads. It is very easy to machine using lathe or milling process. Let us start to make bush bearing in SolidWorks cad software.
How to Use SolidWorks Extrude Boss and other Tools to Make Bushing?
For all Solidworks tutorial, you have to first create part file to make 2d sketch.
Step-1: Create New Part File
Open the SolidWorks CAD software and click on “New” and select “part” from the appearing dialogue box. And click “Ok”. Click here to see how to create new part file.
Select “Front Plane” and apply “Normal To” and you can start 2D drawing on it.
Step-2: Draw Circle using Circle Sketching Tool
For making circle, go to “Sketch Command Manager” and select “Circle Sketching tool”.
Draw center circle using the tool by clicking on the origin (red pointer shows in image) and drag it.
Select “Smart Dimension tool” from the sketch command manager and click on the circumference of the circle and enter the outside diameter = 0.625 inch and ok.
The blue color circle turns to black means , it is fully defined and part of sketch relations.
Now, you have to make one more inner circle of diameter = 0.5 inch and remember to use same center (concentric circle).
Click on the “Exit Sketch”.
Step-3: Apply Extrude Boss or Base Tool
Now, you are finished the sketch and time to add material to your sketch. For that, use extrude boss or base feature tool.
Select the Sketch from the Featuremanager design tree.
Go to features command manager, Select “Extrude Boss or Base Tool” from it.
In the Extrude boss property manager, you can select “blind” is the direction and from “sketch plane”.
Step-4: Apply Chamfer to Bush Bearing
Chamfer is finishing tool which helps to bushing edges tapered for easy insertion to desired places or applications.
For chamfering, select the edges as you need to chamfer in the bushing.
Select Chamfer feature tool from the features command manager and click on it.
It will direct you to chamfer property manager and preview available as shown below.
Apply chamfering of edges about 0.02 inch and chamfer angle = 45 degree and click on green tick button.
Now, you completed bushing design Soildworks tutorial-Exercises.
